UPDATE: 5pm Thursday, March 7 The National Weather Service has updated the winter storm warning with the following announcement: Bands of moderate snow developed late this afternoon over the lower Hudson Valley expanding southward. These bands may impact Northeast New Jersey. Snowfall rates with these bands may approach an inch per hour. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

The winter weather advisory went into effect at 4pm, not 6pm as previously planned, and now calls for 2 to 5 inches of snow, up from a max of 4 inches yesterday.

The class of 2014 parent meeting has been cancelled for this evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Midland Park area. Calling for a "prolonged period of accumulating snow," the advisory goes into effect 6pm Thursday through noon on Friday.

Light snow is expected Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon, with an additional 2 to 4 inches expected during the advisory period. Expect reduced visibility of around 1 mile with temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Accumulating snow on roadways could make for a difficult morning commute on Friday. Gusty winds could lead to downed tree branches and powerlines. Use caution while driving.

Here's a look at the extended seven-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 9pm. Low around 31. Blustery, with a north wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday Night Snow. Low around 29. North wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Snow before noon, then a chance of rain and snow. High near 40. North wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. North wind 6 to 9 mph.

Saturday Sunny, with a high near 50.

Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Sunday Partly sunny, with a high near 52.
