Police Blotter: House Party Broken Up, DWI Arrests & More
The following police blotter items were supplied to Midland Park Press from the Midland Park Police Department:
On March 15, Officer Thomas Bedoe arrested a 16-year-old resident on an incident which occurred on November 22, 2012. The male defendant was charged with simple assault, and will appear in Family Court. Sgt. Michael Powderley assisted.
On March 20, A local business owner reported to Officer Mark Berninger he received a phone call from a utility company stating if he didn’t purchase over $3,800 worth of scratch off lottery tickets his electricity would be disconnected. The owner was to call and let them know when the purchase was completed. Lt. Bernard Vandenberg assisted.
On March 20, Officer Berninger took a report from a Floral Lane resident who stated his Social Security Number had been compromised. The victim was contacted by a credit card company advising him that an unknown person(s) opened accounts in Poughkeepsie, NY. The matter was referred to the Detective Bureau.
Stolen Hub Caps
On March 21, a Midland Park resident reported a larceny to Officer Berninger. He stated his daughter parked his vehicle at the Midland Park High School and, on two different occasions an unknown individual(s) removed the hub caps. The total value of the larceny amounted to $20.
Afternoon DWI, Accident
On March 21, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Hill Street at 3:15 p.m. Officer Michael Canonico arrested the driver, a 48-year-old female resident of Midland Park for driving while intoxicated. Following field sobriety tests, the female was transported to headquarters for processing. Summonses were issued for driving while intoxicated; driving while intoxicated in a school zone; careless driving; unlicensed driver; breath test refusal, and suspended driver. The defendant also has charges pending for providing false information to a police officer. She was released into the custody of her sister with a pending court date. Lt. Vandenberg and Det. Sgt. John Gibbons assisted in the arrest.
Theft of Package
On March 21, a Glen Avenue resident responded to headquarters and reported to Sgt. Powderley a theft. The complainant stated she ordered business documents in January, but didn’t receive the merchandise. She reported she discovered a box from the supplier with her name on it when she was depositing trash in the recycling bin at her residence. The value of the documents amounted to $270. The matter was referred to the Detective Bureau.
Underage House Party
On March 23, officers were dispatched to a residence on Erie Avenue to investigate a report of a loud underage party being held. Upon arrival, the officers observed 15 to 20 juveniles in the backyard, and approximately 50 to 60 empty cans of beer. In another area of the yard they located a crate containing a number of bottles of liquor. The 18-year-old female resident was issued a Borough Ordinance Violation for underage possession and consumption of alcohol. Officer Steven Vander Pyl and Officer Kenneth Junta investigated.
On March 23, at 11:40 p.m. Officer Junta arrested 23-year-old male resident of Midland Park. The male was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Officer Vander Pyl assisted.
On March 24, a 20-year-old Montvale resident was arrested as a result of a motor vehicle accident at 2:28 a.m. Patrol smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath as she spoke to him. In an attempt to locate the driver’s credentials patrol located her purse. In plain view inside the purse patrol observed a glass pipe in a transparent bag. When the bag was opened an odor of burnt marijuana emanated from it. It also contained a substance which appeared to be burnt marijuana. The driver subsequently failed field sobriety tests, and was transported to headquarters for processing. The female was charged with careless driving; driving while intoxicated; failure to submit to breath testing; possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Officers Vander Pyl and Junta investigated and, Sgt. Powderley assisted.
On March 25, Officer Canonico arrested a 26-year-old resident of Paterson on a $200 warrant issued by the Paterson Municipal Court. he male was transported to headquarters where arrangements were made for posting of bail. Officer Christopher Birch assisted.
