CAMP Aims To Pass The Budget & Stop The Rain In Midland Park Schools
● By Anonymous
The Community Alliance of Midland Park (CAMP) is a nonprofit organization of residents who value town pride, strong public education and community cohesiveness. The group initially came together following the failed school referendum and identified several areas of concern over the direction of Midland Park’s future: Declining home values, a flagging business community, lack of attendance at Borough Council and Board of Education meetings, and the welfare of senior citizens in town.
CAMP quickly grew to recognize more opportunities to foster community pride than just the schools. CAMP strives to promote cooperation, transparency and communication for the benefit of all residents of Midland Park. A thriving school district enhances the community, residents, local businesses and increases property values. CAMP believes community pride begins in the schools, but that's not where it ends.
CAMP would like to encourage all residents of Midland Park to support the Board of Education's school budget and second question to fund partial roof replacements at all three schools. The election will be held on Tuesday, April 16 and polls are open from 2 to 9 pm. In order for the second question to pass, it requires a super majority of 60-percent approval. Your vote counts!
A YES vote on both questions will ensure the children of Midland Park continue to receive a quality education and will begin to repair the aging facilities. The proposal specifically would complete replacements at the elementary schools and replace a portion of the junior-senior high school roof. Our children should not have to learn in buildings lined with garbage cans to catch water from the leaking roof.
This request for additional funding is for one year only and not a new referendum. The funds will be raised through taxation over the next year. This is not a bond or a loan and will have no debt service associated with raising these funds. If the proposal fails to get a super majority, the district will not be able to replace these roofs for at least another year.
CAMP is asking all residents display umbrellas or homemade signs in support of the budget and second question to repair the roofs at each school. Show your community pride and solidarity with our students and teachers to help stop the rain in our schools! From Friday, April 12, to Tuesday, April 16, put a rain or beach umbrella on your front lawn and carry an umbrella around town to help spread the word.
Midland Park has a rich history of banding together to help one another. Neighborly support is woven into the fabric of this community. We ask you to remember that every YES vote is a vote for our children, community and our property values.
Pride in our community starts with you! You hold the future of Midland Park in your hands.
