Flash Flood Warning Issued
The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management has issued an alert for the remnants of the first tropical storm of the year. Our area is expected to get up to 4 inches of rain through Saturday morning, with the heaviest rainfall expected this evening. Officials advise drivers to avoid flooded areas, such as Greenwood Avenue from Central Avenue through Birch Street and to avoid standing or moving water. Remember the motto: "Turn around. Don't drown."
According to the National Weather Service, the remnants of Tropical System Andrea will bring heavy rainfall with maximum hourly rates approaching an inch, and a total of 2 to 4 inches of rain forecast for the storm. The heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of small streams and poor drainage areas. Local rivers are not expected to exceed their banks, though some may be filled to capacity.
Avoid any downed power lines and report any outages or downed lines directly to PSE&G through their website, www.pseg.com (note: user account log-in required to report online), or by calling 800-436-PSEG (7734). Wide spread outages are not expected with this storm, however, the PSE&G outage map was already showing small outages in Paramus and Hackensack at noon Friday.
