Take Summer Art Classes at The Drawing Room
Come to the Drawing Room this summer to have fun and learn how to make fantastic works of art. The Drawing Room, located on the second floor at 27 Central Avenue, is offering a variety of classes this summer for both adults and children. These various summer classes will run from July 1 to Aug. 24. If a second member of the family wants to take classes, they will receive a 5% discount.
The Budding Artists class is available for children ages 4-7. During this class, children get to create projects based on different themes and work in a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting and collage. This class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and Wednesday classes will be held outside at The Gardens in Wyckoff. This class costs $215 per week or $50 per class. Parents are asked to send a snack and drink with their child for each class.
For students ages 8 and over, the Art Experience class will guide students in creating themed multi-media projects. This class allows students to work at their own speed and skill level. Students in this class will learn about color theory, shading, composition and how to use different types of mediums like pencils, clay, collage, wire, assemblage, watercolor and acrylic paints, pastels and paper mache. The class runs Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Wednesday classes are outdoors at The Gardens in Wyckoff. The class costs $215 for a week or $50 for individual classes.
The Drawing Room offers four Specialized Fine Arts Camps—Exploring Drawing, Collage and Assemblage, Sculpture Studio and Painter’s Palette. These camps run Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Each class costs $215 per week or $50 for each class.
The Sculpture Studio class gives artists a chance to work with three-dimensional mediums including clay, wire,and paper mache. This class runs during the weeks of July 1, July 22 and Aug. 19.
The Painter’s Palette class teaches artists techniques for working with watercolor, tempera and acrylic paints. Students will work in abstract and representational styles and will paint portraits, still-lifes and landscapes. The class will run during the weeks of July 8 and July 12.
The Exploring Drawing class will teach techniques for sketching and drawing in different mediums, themes, sizes and styles. Students will work with pencils, colored pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels and charcoal. This class will run during the weeks of July 15 and Aug. 5.
The Collage and Assemblage class will teach students about cutting, pasting and assembling. Students will work in different styles and use a variety of materials to create abstract and realistic pieces of art. This class runs during the week of Aug. 29.
Full Day Camp is available for students who want to take part in both the Art Experience class and the Specialized Fine Arts Camps. During the 90 minute break between the classes, students can either eat lunch at a local restaurant or bring lunch from home. They will also have time to visit the parks in the area. This camp will run Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Wednesday mornings will be spent at The Gardens in Wyckoff. This camp costs either $430 per week or $100 per class.
The Outdoor Wednesday Workshop takes place at The Gardens in Wyckoff each week, weather permitting. This class gives students the chance to draw and paint outside in a beautiful environment. The class will teach students about perspective and depth and give students a chance to observe light and color. The Outdoor Wednesday Workshop is available for ages 4 and older and costs $50 per session. Students should be dropped off at The Gardens and the class runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Parents need to sign medical release forms for this class. Students should make sure to bring a drink and a snack and wear sunscreen, bug spray, and comfortable clothes.
Open Studio is available for students who want to learn more art techniques and skills while working with materials such as clay, pastels, watercolors, and acrylic paints, wire, paper mache, pencils, collage and assemblage. This class is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is either $50 per class or $344 for 8 classes.
During the summer, Portfolio Development classes are available to guide art students in creating high level portfolios. This class is designed for middle school students who hope to study art in high school and for high school students who plan to go to college for art. This class is available Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., costing either $215 per week or $50 per class. The class is also available on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for either $344 for 8 classes or $50 per class.
Private lessons can also be scheduled for one-on-one artistic attention at a cost of $80 per hour.
