Continuing Ed Offers 17 Summer Classes

The Continuing Ed Program is offering 17 summer camps and classes running all through July and August. Information about how to register for these programs is available at the Continuing Ed website.

July Programs:

Explore the Art of Mosaics, a class taught by Mosaic Glassworks owner Lisa McLellan, will teach students ages 8 and older to create mosaics from mediums like tiles and glass. This class will cost $155 and will run July 1 to July 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Youth Summer Soccer League will provide training to kids in grades 4 to 7 from July 8 to July 12. Dan Anderson will teach this class from 6p.m. to 8 p.m., and the cost for the week will be $65.

Kindergarten Readiness class, taught by Jean Clarke, will include games and activities to guarantee that your child is ready for school in the fall. This class costs $150 and runs July 8 to 29 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Young Artists Camp, taught by Susan Marlett, will give children ages 8 to 13 the chance to draw, paint and create three-dimensional pieces. The themes for the five days are bead and charm, paint and wood, fabric imagination, duct tape craft and paper craft. This class will cost $160 and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. from July 8 to July 12.

Fashion Sewing Camp, taught by Vivian Burns, will teach children ages 8 to 13 about sewing. The cost for the camp is $175, and the sewing machine and other supplies will be provided. This class will run July 8 to July 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

New York Giants Youth Football Camps will teach kids 6 to 14 all about football from July 15 to July 19. The camp provides instruction for both beginners and more experienced players. This camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will cost $459. To register, visit their website or call 877-226-9919.

Volleyball Camp for Middle School Girls is available for students from July 16 to July 18 and July 23 to July 25. This camp is designed for students who plan on playing volleyball in the fall and for students who just want to learn more about the sport. This camp costs $70 and will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Two Sensational Science Camps will be running for kids in grades 4 to 8 from July 22 to July 25. Future Crime Scene Investigators will teach about forensic methods like analyzing fingerprints, handwriting and bones. This camp is taught by Nancy DeRitter and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In the class Wow Chemistry! Students will use chemistry to create rock candy, ice cream, a Mentos geyser and many other fun projects. Joann Polhemus will teach this class from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. These classes cost $95 each, and families get a $10  discount if their child wants to take both classes.

English Pro Soccer for ages 3 to 16 will teach soccer skills and give kids a chance to put their soccer skills to the test in scrimmages. The cost for this camp is $29, and there is a sibling discount of $20. Referring a friend will give a $25 discount for future English Pro Soccer programs. Programs Running in Both July and August:

TGA Premier Junior Golf Camp will teach children in grades K through 8 about the basics of playing golf. This camp will cost $190 and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the weeks of July 8 and Aug. 5.

August Programs:

Crocheting Craze, taught by Terry Seiders, will teach basic crocheting skills. Students ages 8 and up will get to complete projects like afghans and purses. This class will cost $75 and will run Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Yarn Art-Knitting for Beginners, taught by Terry Seiders, will teach students 8 and older the basic knitting stitches. This class will cost $75 and will run Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Two Sensational Science Camps will also be running in August for grades 4 to 8 from Aug. 12 to Aug. 15. Incredible Polymers! will teach chemistry, engineering, and physics by creating slime, play doh and other fun slimy and sticky experiments. This class will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m and will cost $95.  The Robotics Blast! class will teach students to build a solar powered creation and design their own solar system. This class will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost $125. Both of these classes will be taught by Nancy DeRitter, and there will be a $10 discount for students who want to attend both classes.

SAT Prep Classes in Math and English will be available for students who want to improve their skills and scores. These classes will run  from Aug. 5 to 8 and from Aug. 12 to 15.  These classes each cost $130, but the cost is reduced to $245 if a student wants to take both classes. The English class will be taught from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. by Sarah Berninger, and the math class will be taught from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. by Allyson LaMarca.

Design Diva Camp, taught by Vivian Burns, will teach students ages 8 to 13 how to design and sew their own clothes. The students will get to present these clothes in a fashion show at the end of the week. This camp costs $295 and will run Aug. 12 to Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
