Summer Dance Camps & Classes Held at New School of Dance Arts

This summer the New School of Dance Arts is offering two exciting camps for children. The camps will give young dancers the opportunity grow emotionally, mentally and physically and to have lots of fun. The New School of Dance Arts also has four different weekly classes for teens and adults.

Princess Dance Camp is available for children ages 4 to 6. This camp runs July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $250. Princes Dance Camp uses princess stories as a fun way to introduce children to dance and as a way to inspire creativity. Children will learn ballet, jazz and contemporary styles of dance and will learn how to tell stories through movement. Students will also make princess themed crafts. The small classes in this camp will give student the chance to receive individual attention. The dress code for this camp is a leotard, pink tights and pink shoes, and students should wear their hair in a bun. Snacks including animal crackers, pretzels, water and lemonade will be provided each day. Students should bring lunch from Monday to Thursday, and the school will provide pizza on Friday. Musical Theater Camp is available for students in grades 2 to 4. This camp focuses on vocal skills, dance skills, choreography and acting. The camp will have small class sizes and will provide individual attention for each student. This camp will run July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will cost $270. The dress code for this camp is a leotard, either black jazz pants or pink tights and either black jazz shoes or pink ballet slippers, and students must pull back their hair. Snacks will be provided each day, and students should bring lunch every day except for Friday, when the school will provide pizza. On Friday there will also be a special performance for parents from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. More information and a schedule of activities is available online.

The Middle School Summer Strengthening Classes will run each Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students in this class will learn about modern and ballet technique as well as the foundations of dance. This class will also cover strength and conditioning exercises, deep stretching and yoga.

The High School Summer Series Classes run on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. This class will teach about subjects like dance foundations, ballet and modern technique, anatomy, improvisation, partnering, contact and choreography.

Open Yoga classes are available for high school students and adults on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. This class teaches hatha raja vinyasa yoga and will cover breathing, yoga postures and meditation. This class welcomes both experienced students and beginners.

Adult Ballet Class will run on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. This class teaches ballet techniques at the beginner/ intermediate level. High school students may join this class with instructor approval.

The summer classes for teens and adults have already begun, but you are welcome to stop by and take a class for $16. If you decide to sign up, the cost of the remaining classes will be reduced to $14 each. These classes will all end on the week of July 29, so stop by soon.
