Hot enough for you? The National Weather Service predicts a heat index of almost 110F today. In addition to an Excessive Heat Warning, an Air Quality Alert has been issued for the Midland Park area as well. This means people with asthma or other health conditions should stay inside in the air conditioning today.
While it may be tempting to put up a lawn chair and camp out in the frozen food aisle at A&P Bundy-style, store management would probably not be happy about it. Here's some more socially acceptable ways to beat the heat today.
Free Movie Time The library is showing Ivan The Terrible at 2pm in the Community Room, which may just be the coolest room in town. The library is open from 10am to 5pm on Friday.
Senior Center County officials have opened the Northwest Bergen Senior Center to all residents as an official Cooling Center.
Reading Room The Christian Science Reading Room on Godwin Avenue is open 11am to 3pm and offers a cool and quiet place to beat the heat.
CrossRoads Concert The air conditioned Midland Park Church of God is hosting Oracle in Concert tonight at 8pm.

Iced Coffee Hang out at Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts with an ice cold coffee or blended coffee smoothie in the cool AC. As a bonus: Both have WiFi.
Milk Shakes Pull up a stool at Hogan's on Central Avenue for a good old fashioned milk shake in the cool family-run diner. You can also get a cool and creamy Fribble at Friendly's, a Frosty at Wendy's, or a shake at Bergen King or Basking Robbins.
