Police Blotter: Serving Alcohol To Minors, Warrant Arrests & More

Midland Park Police
The following police blotter items were supplied to MPK Press from the Midland Park Police Department:
On Aug. 4, an Erie Avenue resident reported to Officer Kevin Van Dyk that his wallet was taken from his unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours of Aug. 2. The wallet, valued at $70, contained $400 in cash, credit cards and a driver’s license.
Underage Drinking, Serving Minors
On Aug. 4 at 11:30 p.m., Sgt. Michael Powderley and Officer Christopher Birch were dispatched to investigate a report of a group of juveniles carrying a keg of beer in the roadway on Vreeland Avenue. Upon further investigation patrol located a group of juveniles running away from the area of Chamberlain Avenue. In speaking with the juveniles the officers discovered they were at a house party where alcoholic beverages were consumed. The investigation revealed there were more than 12 juveniles who attended the party. Two males — one 16-years-old and one 17-years-old — were intoxicated and taken into headquarters for processing. They were charged with underage aged consumption of alcohol, and will appear in Family Court. The parents of the other juveniles were contacted and, they were released into their custody. The owner of the residence was arrested and charged with serving alcohol to minors. He was released and, is to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Sgt. Gregory Kasbarian and Officers from Ridgewood and Wyckoff assisted in the investigation.
As the result of a traffic stop on Aug. 5, Officer Mark Berninger arrested a 32-year-old Hawthorne resident on an outstanding warrant from Hawthorned in the amount of $165. The male was transported to headquarters where arrangements were made for the posting of bail.
As the result of a traffic stop on Aug. 7, Officer Berninger arrested a 56-year-old Hawthorne resident on a warrant out of Glen Rock in the amount of $89. The defendant was transported to headquarters where arrangements were made to satisfy the warrant. Lt. Bernard Vandenberg assisted.
On Aug. 13, a Paterson resident reported her bank account was compromised. She stated $900 was withdrawn from the account by a relative without her permission. Sgt. Kasbarian referred the incident to the Detective Bureau.
On Aug. 13, a Pine Street resident reported to Officer Birch that he received a counterfeit $10 while he was in Seaside Heights. The bill was turned over to Det. Sgt. John Gibbons for processing by the Secret Service.
Drug Possession, Warrant
On Aug. 13, police arrested a 22-year-old male resident of Lincoln Park on charges of providing false information to a police officer and possession of marijuana under 50 grams. According to the report, the arrest came as the result of a July 13 incident, where the suspect provided false information to police. A subsequent investigation revealed his correct name and, on Aug. 9, Officer Thomas Bedoe issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest. On Aug. 13, Det. Sgt. Gibbons saw the defendant at a local business. Before being taken into custody, the defendant was searched and, patrol discovered a small baggie containing greenish vegetation. He was processed and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams in addition to the charges of providing false information to an officer. He was released pending a court date. Lt. Vandenberg, Officer Kenneth Junta and Officer Jason Tillson assisted in the investigation.
