Ceiling Tiles Collapse on Students at MPHS

09/11/2013 03:57PM ● By Rebecca K. Abma

Roof replacement work being done at Midland Park Junior-Senior High School last week.

As roof repairs continue at Midland Park Junior Senior High School, ceiling tiles fell on a classroom of students today. Roughly one-quarter of the ceiling tiles in Room 54 fell without warning this afternoon, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Cirasella.

The classroom is not located in the area of the school where the roof work is being done, she emphasized.

"Six students were hit with tiles/pieces of tiles and examined by the school nurse," Dr. Cirasella explained. "Due to the dust, some students reported eye irritation and we are extremely grateful that no one sustained a serious injury."

Students will be relocated as the district works to investigate this issue and remediate any other concerns.

MPHS Back to School Night is tonight.
