Police Blotter: DWI, Shoplifting Arrest

On Sept. 20, Office Christopher Birch arrested a 25-year-old Wayne man on charges of Driving While Intoxicated. As a result of a traffic stop, Officer Birch smelled alcohol on the male’s breath and conducted field sobriety tests. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The defendant was issued summonses for improper turns and driving while intoxicated and is to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court. Officers Steven Vander Pyl and Mark Berninger assisted in the investigation.
On Sept. 24 at 3:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local supermarket for a shoplifter in custody. The defendant, a 43-year-old North Haledon resident, was observed placing items in her shopping bag, covering them up with her purse, and then adding additional items on top. She was apprehended when she left the store. The total value of the theft amounted to $74. She was transported to headquarters, processed and released on her own recognizance with a pending court date. Sgt. Michael Powderley, Det. Sgt. John Gibbons, and Officer Vander Pyl investigated.
