Mark Braunius, Lorraine DeLuca and Peter Jeffer have been selected by the Republican County Committee to fill the council seat left vacant by Councilman Mike Junta's resignation earlier this month.

According to Borough Clerk Addie Hanna, the council has 30 days to make it's decision. Because it is a personnel matter, any discussion regarding the candidates will be made in closed session. The nomination and vote will be held during a public meeting of the mayor and council.

The Republican County Committee — not to be confused with the borough's Republican Club — by law had 15 days from Junta's Oct. 12 resignation to select candidates. On Monday, Oct. 14, the three candidates were presented to the council, which now has 30 days from that date to finalize a decision.

Braunius currently sits on the Planning Board and previously served on the Borough Council.  DeLuca is currently on the Library Board of Directors and previously served on the Board of Recreation, in addition to being active in Boy Scouts and chairing the Memorial Day Parade. Jeffer is the municipal public defender and former municipal, and long-time public defender.
