● By Rebecca K. Abma
A string of attempted lurings in the area have police and pedestrians on high alert. The latest occurred in Waldwick on Sunday morning, when woman was approached while jogging on Douglass Street, near E. Prospect Street and West Saddle River Road.
According to police, around 10am two men in a black Nissan sedan approached the woman and told her to get into the vehicle. The woman refused and the suspects fled the area. The occupants were described as white males in their mid- to late-20s, and the driver had long dark hair.
A search of the area as well as surrounding towns was unsuccessful.
This latest luring attempt comes just days after a girl was grabbed in Ridgewood near the Waldwick boarder on her way home from school on Friday. A similar incident occurred a week earlier on Godwin Avenue in Ridgewood.
The description of the suspects are different for each of the incidents.
Residents are asked to contact the Waldwick Police Department immediately if they observe any suspicious persons or vehicles. Anyone with additional information on the above incidents should contact Det. Sgt. Doug Moore at 201-652-5700.
