Winter Storm Warning: Electra
By Rebecca K. Abma
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for this weekend, with a predicted 6 to 10 inches of snowfall in the Midland Park area. The storm, called Electra by the Weather Channel, is a combination of three fronts joining together in the Northeastern region. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will meet with a snow system in the Great Lakes, which will meet up with another low pressure system coming up the Atlantic coastline.
The winter storm watch is in effect from Saturday morning through late Saturday night. Snow will begin Saturday morning and continue through the day, becoming heavy at times before turning into sleet and freezing rate late Saturday night. Winds gusts up to 25 mph is expected.
Severe Weather NJ reported a Grid Emergency was declared for the PJM Grid, the power grid that serves Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, due to people cranking up the heat during the cold weather. A grid emergency is declared when the demand for power exceeds the available supply, resulting in outages. PSE&G has not reported any issues or anticipated issues at this time.
In the event of power outages, call PSE&G at 800-463-7734. If you need shelter information, contact Midland Park CERT by CERTMP@yahoo.com or call 201-444-2300.
