Obituary: Orie Schaper, 91

SCHAPER, Orie, age 91, of Midland Park, died Friday, February 21, 2014. Orie was born in Holland and was a lifelong resident of Midland Park. He served as a Signalman in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Orie was the Owner/Operator of Schaper Disposal Works in Midland Park. He was a member of the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years, the Faith Reformed Church, the VFW Post # 7086, and he was one of the charter members of the Grandview Rod & Gun Club.

He is survived by his children: Bill Schaper and his wife Anne of Midland Park and Ida Jean McNamara and her husband Michael of Burlington, VT; his 5 grandchildren: William II, Holly Christina Monroe, Laura Beth Vierheilig, Sarah Elizabeth and Rebecca Pearl McNamara; and his great grandchildren Ethan Monroe and Madelynn Joy Schaper. Orie is also survived by his siblings: Jennie Marcus of Wyckoff; Henrietta Klopman, Minnie Siegers and Samuel Schaper, all of Midland Park. Orie was predeceased by Pearl, his wife of 62 years, in 2008, and by his son Albert Schaper in 2006, and two brothers Frank and John.

Visiting hours are Monday 2 – 4 & 7 - 9 pm at the Olthuis Funeral Home, www.ofhmp.com, 159 Godwin Ave. Midland Park, NJ. Funeral Service is Tuesday, 10:30 am at the Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect St., Midland Park, NJ. Interment will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the James A. McFaul Environmental Center, (Make checks payable to the County of Bergen, in memo section: Environmental Center Trust Fund) 150 Crescent Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
