Police Blotter: Marijuana Arrest, Car Burglary & Fraud

The following Police Blotter items were submitted by the Midland Park Police Department:
On Feb. 17, at 4:55 p.m. a17-year-old Hawthorne juvenile female was detained for possession of marijuana. Officer Mark Berninger observed a non-functional brake lamp and conducted a motor vehicle stop. In speaking with the driver patrol detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. The investigation led to the subject being transported to headquarters where she was processed. The juvenile was released into the custody of her father and will appear in Juvenile Court. Officer Matthew Lombardo assisted.
On Feb. 19, a Midland Park resident reported to Officer Thomas Bedoe he was a victim of a fraud. He stated he responded to an ad on Craigslist which offered payment for having a company logo placed on private vehicles. The victim stated he received a check in the amount of $2,505.88 and was instructed to keep $550 for himself and mail the remainder to a return address which was provided. After contacting the addressee he was informed that her account number was stolen, and he should not cash the check. The case was forwarded to the Detective Bureau.
On Feb. 20, Officer Berninger was dispatched to take a burglary report. The victim, a resident of Waldwick, stated the front passenger window was smashed and a purse and wallet were taken. The wallet contained $25 in cash, and $270 in gift cards. The total amount of the theft was more than $450 including the cost of the purse and wallet value.
