Police Blotter: Hypodermic Needle in Municipal Court, Terroristic Threat at School, Underage Drinking & More

The following Police Blotter items were submitted by the Midland Park Police Department:
On March 20, a 12-year-old female resident of West Milford was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment. The victim, a 12-year-old resident of Elmwood Park, and the defendant, are students at the high school. The defendant will appear in Family Court. Officer Mark Berninger investigated.
On March 21, a Loss Prevention Officer for a local business reported to Det. Sgt. John Gibbons a shoplifting took place on March 12. He stated a female entered the store and shoplifted approximately $100 worth of razor blades and eye care products. The case is under investigation.
On March 22, a Hawthorne resident reported she added $150 to her Vanilla reload card at a business in Midland Park and, when she tried to use it, she was informed there were no funds available. She contacted the company and was informed one hour after she funded the card, the money was removed. Officer Berninger took the report.
On March 22 at 9:30 p.m., Sgt. Michael Powderley and Officer Berninger responded to Wortendyke Park on a report of juveniles throwing garbage around. In speaking with the juveniles the officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from their breath. At the conclusion of the investigation a 16-year-old male resident of Midland Park and a 15-year-old male resident of Wyckoff were charged with underage drinking. They were transported to headquarters, processed and released into the custody of their parents. They will appear in Family Court.
On March 24 at 2:05 a.m., as the result of a motor vehicle stop at Spruce Street, Officer Christopher Birch arrested a 21-year-old male resident of Hasbrouck Heights for driving while intoxicated. Following field sobriety tests the male was transported to headquarters for processing. He was issued four summonses, given a date to appear in the Midland Park Municipal Court and released into the custody of a relative. Officers Steven Vander Pyl and Jason Tillson assisted.
On March 24, Officer Thomas Bedoe took a report from a resident of Westtown, NY, who stated an unknown person used his debit card to make a purchase at a local business. The value of the purchase amounted to $534.99. The report was forwarded to the Detective Bureau.
On March 25, a member of the Ambulance Corps reported to Officer Kevin Van Dyk an unknown person removed a generator and a lite kit, from their headquarters. The total value of the theft amounted to $1,549. The case is under investigation.
On March 25 at 4:30 p.m., a 24-year-old male resident of Wyckoff was arrested. The defendant was in the Midland Park Municipal Court to pay a ticket he previously received for driving while suspended. During the screening process it was discovered he had on his person a hypodermic needle/syringe and drugs. He was removed from the court, brought to headquarters, processed and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The male was released and given a date to appear in court. Det. Sgt. Gibbons, Officers Vander Pyl and Berninger investigated.
