Compost Bins For Sale By County

04/14/2014 01:47PM ● By Rebecca K. Abma
Interested in composting for your garden? Bergen County residents will once again have the opportunity to recycle yard waste by setting up a backyard compost pile with a little help from the BCUA.  Bins will be on sale Sunday, April 27 at Bergen Community College in Paramus between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., rain or shine.

At the sale, individuals may purchase an Earth Machine™ home composting bin for only $53; the bin retails for over $100. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check or money order. No credit cards.

Participants will also be provided information on composting and recycling. Additional compost materials are also available for sale.

The Earth Machine™ can be used to compost fruit and vegetable scraps, crushed eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds and filters into mulch for your lawn and garden. Compost creates a rich, all natural soil nutrient for landscapes, gardens, and houseplants. Compost also enhances soil’s ability to retain moisture and can reduce your reliance on chemical fertilizers.

Can't attend? Compost bins are also available Monday through Friday at the BCUA by appointment only. Contact the BCUA Environmental Programs Hotline at (201) 807-5825 to schedule an appointment or for more information.
