Midland Park

We've Moved! Visit Our New Site!

At the end of 2012, I started Midland Park Press to provide an online platform for local news and information in my hometown of Midland Park, NJ. After 18-plus months of covering schools, government, business and more, I made the decision to partner with other local news editors to expand to cover all of Northwest Bergen County at a new site

The reasons for doing so are simple: The world doesn't end at the town line. I often found myself reporting on events outside of Midland Park, because they were nearby and interesting. Some of the most popular articles on the site were stories out of Waldwick, Wyckoff, Ridgewood and Glen Rock. Issues that affect one town in our area can impact many towns.

In surveying the local media landscape, I found there isn't one site that caters to the Northwest Bergen area exclusively. There are sites devoted to individual towns, sites devoted to the entire county, multiple counties and state. As a resident of Midland Park, I find that I am no longer interested in news from other parts of the county or state.

I didn't understand it before here eight years ago. I grew up in Paramus, the shopping center of the county. I had every highway imaginable just a few turns from my house. My travel patterns ran in every direction. My friends in Ridgewood and Wyckoff would say I was east of 17 and they didn't cross 17 if they didn't need too. I get it now.

Just about anything and everything I need can be found close to home. I won't cross Route 17, Route 208 or Route 4 without a very compelling reason. I no longer shop at the malls; I shop local. I dine local. I hang out local.

And "local" means more than just Midland Park. It's Waldwick, Ramsey, Ridgewood, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Glen Rock, Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Mahwah. It is a huge undertaking, but my partners and I believe that our readers will be better served covering a larger territory. The site is also organized with individual town pages, so you can find all your Midland Park news in one place.

Our new motto is "What Matters Most in Your Neighborhood." We are calling on all of our readers to help us in that mission. If you have a news tip or story idea, submit it here. If you'd like to become a community correspondent and help with covering events and meetings (and possibly Livestreaming meetings), click here

We also make it very easy for the community to post news, announcements, events, photos and blogs directly to the site. Just use this link and one of our editors will review it before posting.

I hope you will find Northwest Bergen Press to be a useful source of news and information in Midland Park and beyond. Thanks for the support!
